Tow-Pro Brake Controller at SEMA

Australian manufacturer, Redarc Electronics has showcased its award-winning electric brake controller Tow-Pro Elite, at the 2016 SEMA Show.

Redarc have been selling their Tow-Pro range of brake controllers in Australia since 2014 where it has become one of the most popular electric brake controllers on the market being used by people who tow caravans and camper trailers, horse floats and boats. Redarc’s Managing Director, Mr Anthony Kittel, said Tow-Pro Elite sets the industry benchmark for innovation in electric trailer braking technology.

“It is the only product on the market that offers two types of trailer braking in the one unit,” he said.

Tow-Pro Elite, provides users with the ability to swap between braking modes; ‘Proportional mode’ which actively calibrates, requiring no user input or levelling and ‘User-Controlled mode’ designed for the greatest level of control when driving off-road.

Proportional mode, measures the braking force applied by the towing vehicle and applies the electric trailer brakes to a proportional degree. It is mostly used for highway towing. The user controlled braking mode is more suitable for off-road towing and gives the driver full control of the brake level.

Tow-Pro Elite features the latest in accelerometer technology and Redarc’s patented brake application algorithm, allowing simple installation of the main unit in any orientation and requires only the control knob be accessible by the driver.

“This overcame the possible intrusion of traditional brake controllers into the driver’s leg space and potential interference with lower airbags in newer vehicles,” Mr Kittel said.

The dash mounted control knob is compliant with UNECE R21 for installation into head impact zones. Mr Kittel said the control knob could be seamlessly mounted in a blank switch panel, an unused area of the dashboard or the centre console within vision and easy reach of the driver.

“Operation is easy with the driver able to adjust the gain control knob to suit the trailer weight resulting in smooth braking for motorists towing heavy trailers and caravans,” he said.

Tow-Pro Elite will operate both electric and electric/hydraulic trailer braking and is suitable for both 12 and 24 volt vehicles.
Mr Kittel said while Australia continues to be Redarc’s key market, the Tow-Pro Elite is expected to generate strong interest from the North American market with key industry people in the automotive aftermarket already trialling the product.

The Tow-Pro Elite electric brake controller was recently named a 2017 Global Media Award winner at the SEMA Show, additionally it has been awarded a number of Innovation awards in Australia.
